
The $340 No Limit Hold’em Deep Stack event attracted a crowd of 449 players with an impressive top prize of $ going to the winner. At the end of day 1 there were entrants remaining. The final table was made 3 hours into day 2.
9th place came at the hands of Bruce Lankford’s who made a raise with pocket J’s. Mike Bradford tried to make a move on Lankford from the button with his last 200k and got the insta-call from Lankford. Bradford saw the J’s and was rather sheepish when turning over his 6-7. A jack hit the window and the Bradford was done for the day earning $1,747.
Just a few hands later, Mark Dumas got his money in with a race situation. Dumas’ A-K was up against the pocket J’s of Clay McCord. the board read 10-10-6-6-9 and the rail was calling Mark Dumas, who finished 8th earning $2,718.
With the blinds at 10k/20k, the action gets around to Clay McCord who makes a button play with K-5 for 60k. The small blind gets out of the way which left Bruce Lankford with a decision. After much deliberation, Bruce calls and they see the flop of 9-7-6. Bruce checks to Clay who moves in for the rest of his stack and Bruce insta-calls tabling A-9. The turn is the 3 and the river is the A. Clay McCord is done in 7th earning $3,688.
An extremely crazy scenario played out which would leave one man out and another gaining some serious respect. With blinds still at 10k/20k, Dallas Dysart was in the big blind with only 45k behind him. Action got to Mike Burrow and he made the raise to 60k. Bruce Lankford made the call from the small blind and Dallas put in his last chips. The flop was A-5-9 and the two live players checked. The turn was a 6 and Lankford lead out for 60k. Burrow raised it up another 160k and was met by an instant all-in by Lankford who had everyone covered. Mike took several agonizing minutes trying to get a read on Lankford. He finally tabled pocket 6′s before the went in the muck. The table was even more stunned when Lankford tabled pocket 9′s! Dallas Dysart mucked his hand on the river and was sent home in 6th earning $4,659.
The action on the last hand of the tourney was not reported, but Steve Weigel was all-in with pocket K’s and Bruce Lankford called him down with K-J after a flop of 10-7-2. the turn was a 9 and the river was a Q giving Lankford the runner-runner straight. Steve Weigel was done in 5th earning $5,629.
the remaining players made a deal and the champion of the tournament is Mr. Bruce Lankford, who earns $26,311, the main event seat, and the trophy.
