Event #8 – $340 No Limit Hold’em Deep Stack

John Dolan

With 455 entrants in the No Limit Hold’em Deep Stack Event, there was plenty of ammunition for our final table. From start to finish, there would never be a dull moment. Everyone had their eye’s on the $32,956 top prize as well as an entry into the main event!

The short stack of the final table belonged to Ronald Nacol. Nacol put in the 5k to complete his small blind and Rick Alexander would raise the action to 30k. Nacol would take little time in moving all-in for just a few more chips and Alexander made the crying call with 4-7. Nacol held A-J and was ahead…until the flop of 10-7-4. The turn was a 3 and the river was a 2. Ronald Nacol finished 9th earning $2,198.

Just one orbit later, Pascal Boutineau would raise the action from 10k to 30k under the gun. Action folded around to John Dolan who made the call from the big blind. The flop was A-8-3 and dolan checked. Boutineau put in his last 50k and Dolan made the call tabling A-8 for two pair. Boutineau was stunned as he turned over pocket Q’s. The turn and river failed to improve either hands and Pascal Boutineau was sent packing in 8th place earning $3,418.

With the blinds at 10k/20k, Michael Hallen would raise the pot to 60k. Action folded over to Cameron Chachere in the small blind who didn’t even hesitate to move all-in for his 218k more. Hallen mulled the decision over and finally made the call with K-Q. Chachere was in deep trouble with K-J. The board ran out 5-6-8-9-9 and the K-Q held up. Cameron Chachere finished 7th earning $4,639.

The toughest beat of the final table award had to go to Joel Watts who made a raise under the gun to 70k. Rick Alexander was in the big blind and put in a reraise to 200k total. Joel deliberated for a few seconds and announced his raise of  of 265k more and was all-in. Rick made the insta-call and tabled pocket Q’s versus the pocket A’s of Watts. The flop was 2-5-6 not helping either player. The turn was a K and the other players at the table let out a sigh because they all thought it was a Q. But, the real Q showed up on the river and Joel Watts’ pocket A’s were cracked! Watts ended the day in 6th place earning $5,860.

Almost every time it came down to a blind versus blind battle between the mega stack of John Dolan and the short stack of Thomas Doussan, Dolan would force Doussan to fold. Finally, Dolan moved al-in on Doussan and Doussan made the call rather quickly holding J-6. Dolan announced that Doussan was in big trouble when Dolan turned over the K-6. The board had no effect on either hand and just like that, Thomas Doussan was done in 5th earning $7,081.

Mike Kerlin was the next victim when he moved all-in for his last 200k against Michael Hallen who was holding K-5. Kerlin’s 10-6 was outflopped when a K came out and no other help came to Kerlin on the turn or river. Mike Kerlin was dispatched in 4th place earning $8,302.

A classic race situation would spell doom for Rick Alexander who held A-J versus the pocket 5’s of Michael Hallen. The board read K-K-8-K-9 and Rick Alexander was done in 3rd earning $10,743.

The heads up battle between Hallen and Dolan wouldn’t take too long. With the blinds at 40k/80k, Dolan would raise it to 240k. Hallen moved all-in and Dolan insta-called with A-Q. Hallen was in a slight lead with pocket 2’s. The door was all but shut when the flop was A-Q-Q! the turn and river held no 2’s and Hallen was crippled.

Eventually Hallen was knocked out in 2nd place earning $18,313. Our champion is John Dolan who gets the seat to the main event, $32,956, and the trophy.
