Event #11 – $340 No Limit Hold’em

Champion Gary Bland from Edwardsville, Illionois

The last two-day tourney of the Gulf Coast Poker Championship was event 11, which drew in 242 players with an impressive prize pool of $70,422. On the first day, the players would play for over fourteen hours before we would reach the final nine players. Those players would return the next day and that is where our action picked up.

On the fourth hand of the final table, James Reed (Q’s) gets all the money all-in versus Howard Mash (A-K). The board ran out 4-5-6-3-8, which sent Howard Mash out in 9th earning $1,408.

Ron Lee managed to get the last of his chips in the middle holding pocket 10′s versus the K-J of James Reed. The flop was J-4-5 and Reed was now in the lead. The turn was the As and the river was a harmless 2. Ron Lee finished 8th earning $2,113.

Preflop and under the gun, Richard Woodward limped in for 16,000. Action folded around to Skip Gill who raised the action to 40k. Richard wasted no time in moving all-in and Skip insta-called. Skip was in the lead with pocket K’s versus the pocket 7′s of Woodward. The flop was 9-10-2. The turn K sealed the deal and Richard Woodward finished in 7th earning $2,817.

Just two hands after the last knockout, James Reed made a raise to 40k and action got over to Cornelius O’Sullivan, who moved all-in. James made the call tabling pocket 9′s, while Cornelius was in trouble with 8h-7h. The flop was A-K-A rainbow. The turn was a 3 and the river was a 4. Cornelius O’Sullivan finished 6th earning $3,521.

With blinds at 10k/20k, Skip Gill raised from under the gun to 60k. Action folded around to Kenneth Williams who moved all-in for a little less than the raise. The two players turned their hands over and Skip’s Q’s were ahead of the A-10 of Kenneth. The board came K-2-3-10-K, which meant Kenneth “Chilly” Williams finished 5th earning $4,225.

James Reed made a raise from 20k to 70k from the small blind. Skip Gill moved all-in for just 90k more from the big blind. James made the reluctant call with K-J versus the A-10 of Gill. The flop was 7-10-3 and gill was still ahead. The turn was another 3, but the river K gave the pot to Reed. Skip Gill finished 4th earning $5,634.

Gary Bland and Phillip Starner got all their money in preflop with Starner being the shorter stack. Starner held A-9 versus the pocket K’s of Bland. The flop was enough to end the hand when it came 7-K-7. The turn was a J and the river was a 4. Phillip Starner finished 3rd earning $7,042.

The last hand of the tourney came down to a preflop all-in with James Reed holding pocket 5′s versus the A-J of Gary Bland. Reed would need his 5′s to hold up since he was the shorter stack. The flop didn’t help Reed when the 4-J-3 came out. The turn was an A and the river too, was an A. James Reed finished the day in 2nd earning $12,817.

Our champion for event #11 is Gary Bland. For his hard work, Gary takes home the trophy, the bracelet, and the $23,240 top prize.
