214 players have tried to pull off the feat, but only six players remain trying to become champion of the 2011 Southern Poker Championship. Over the past few days, these players, survived and dominated the rest of the field and the fruits of their labor have paid off in the form of the coveted television final table. Let’s take a look at the six players who have made it this far:
Seat 1: Alex Kuzmin – 1,969,000
Alex Kuzmin “alex987″ is 34 and comes from Moscow, Russia. He majored in Information Technology at Saint Petersburg State University and currently still works in this field. Alex has been playing poker for 10 years and loves playing every kind of poker. His tournamnent winnings amount to over $430,000.
Seat 2: Patrick Mahoney – 394,000
Patrick Mahoney “pmahoney22″ is a 26 year old graduate of the University of North Dakota. While in college, he ran track and cross country. Patrick has been playing poker since he was old enough to remember and loves the mixed 8-games. This is Mahoney’s first television final table and says this is also his greatest poker accomplishment. He did final table an earlier prelim event here and came in 3rd.
Seat 3: Leif Force – 674,000
Many will remember Leif for his WSOP final table from 2006, where Leif finished just short of the final table in 11th. Leif’s game of choice is Pot Limit Omaha and no limit hold’em. He’s been playing poker professionally for 10 years and won his seat into this event through a $500 satellite. Leif says that he got into poker simply because, “getting a job was not an option”.
Ryan Hughes is a 30 year old poker player from Place Chandler, Arizona. Ryan has been playing poker for 8 years and really thrives in the big tournaments. Hughes’ biggest cash was $250,000 from a Bellagio event and is a 2 time bracelet holder. He actually said that other players would describe him as, “pretty fishy”, but from the looks of his game, he’s anything but! In his spare time he loves to play golf and relax.
Seat 5: Shannon Shorr – 663,000
Shannon is a Birmingham, Alabama native who made his mark on the poker world in the 2006 Aussie Millions with a fourth place finish. Shorr’s lifetime earnings are up to $3,445,100 and could go over the 4 million mark with a win here. His screen name online is bluffforrent and has been playing poker for only 5 years. Shannon recently obtained a business management degree from the University of Alabama .
Seat 6: Allen Carter – 1,928,000
Allen is no stranger to final tables at Beau Rivage. He is the 2009 champion of this very event, where he won a $1,000,000. Allen’s screen name online is Aaww Nutz, which is where he got his start in poker. Carter calls Lewisville, Texas home and is married with three children. In his spare time, Allen loves coaching youth sports, and playing golf.
